Lu1.101
LDecember 1,2004
NOA Project Number: E04117A
L 5.0 SOIL PROFILE AND GEOLOGIC INFORMATION
L The Site is depicted on the USGS Preliminary Geologic Map of Cenozoic Depo.dts of the Bellota Quadrangle
(1979) as within the Turlock Lake Formation, the Mehrten Formation and the North Merced
Gravel. The Turlock Lake Formation consists of arkosic alluvium, probably glacial outwash;chiefly
sand with some silt and minor gravel. The Mehrten Formation consists of andesitic conglomerate,
sandstone, mudstone and lahars. The North Merced Gravel is a thin locally-derived pediment gravel
cap over Tertiary deposits (Plate 7).
LThe surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin County Soil Survey
to be composed of Kaseberg fine sandXloam..to nexcent slopes,Pardee cobbly loaru, 3 to 15
percent slopes and Pentz sandy loam,2 to 25 percent slopes. (Plate 8) (USDA, 1992). Table34
Lpresents some selected properties of these soils:
Table 3.
-San Joaquin County Soil Survey-
Selected Soil Properties of On-Site Soils.
Soil Name Depth Unified Soil Classification Salinity Soil Perme- Septic tank
and Map (in) mmhos/cm Reaction ability absorption
Symbol pH (in/hr) fields
Kaseberg 0-17: Fine sandy loam,SM-ML <2 6.1-7.3 2.0-6.0 Severe:
` fine sandy 17-20: Indurated <2 6.1-7.3 0.2-0.6 depth to
loam,2- 20: Weathered bedrock <2 6.1-7.3 0.06-0.2 rock,
15%slopes, cemented
185. pan,slope.
r
Pardee 0-9: Cobbly loam,SM,SC-SM <2 5.1-6.5 0.6-2.0 Severe:
cobbly 9-18: Very cobbly loam,very gravelly <2 5.1-6.5 0.2-0.6 depth to
loam,3- day loam,very gravelly loam,GC, rock•
15%slopes, GM-GC.
203. 18: Unweathered Bedrock --- --- ---
Pentz sandy 0-12: Loam,CL-ML,ML <2 5.6-6.5 0.6-2.0 Severe:
` loam,2- 12-26: Sandy clay loam,SC <2 6.1-7.3 0.2-0.6 depth to
15%slopes, 26-35: Clay loam,day,CL <2 6.1-7.8 <0.06 rock.
206. 35-60: 1 Indurated --- I --
' Note:The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
5.1 Soil Boring Locations
L
A total of 4 soil borings were advanced on the Site, one (1) boring to a depth of 19 feet, one (1)
boring to a depth of 22 feet and two (2) borings to three foot depth.
