RE: Soil Suitability Study For 3974 E. Liberty Rd,Galt
Land Use Application#PA-02-489(MS)
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)has reviewed the Soil Suitability Study, dated April
16,2003,and has the following comments for your consideration.
The review of the Soil Suitability Study has revealed several issues in need of clarification and explanation. These items
are listed below for your reference.
• Please provide an updated parcel map showing the locations of all passing percolation tests, the current on-site
well*and septic, the new home, and the drainage course located at the north end of the parcels.
• Please provide additional information regarding the water sampling, specifically the location of the well(shown
on a map),the type of well, the location of sample collection(well head, spigot, etc.),the methods used to
collect, store, and transport the sample, the condition of the sample at the laboratory, etc.
• Please provide the readings for the 3/6/2003 percolation test#2.
• Please provide additional discussion on the type, size and siting of future potential septic systems on these
parcels taking into consideration the shallow soil lithology noted at the site, the failed shallow percolation tests,
the high rate of septic repairs noted in the general area, and the drainage course located at the north portion of the
parcels. In addition, please provide supplementary discussion on the proposed 8,000 square foot leach field area
taking into consideration the shallow soil lithology noted at the site, the failed shallow percolation tests, the high
rate of septic repairs noted in the general area, and the drainage course located at the north portion of the parcels.
Please be advised that the leach field requirements in the San Joaquin County Sewage Standards are minimum
standards and site-specific information,as obtained from required studies, may indicate more restrictive
requirements.
Please provide an addendum to the Soil Suitability Study addressing the items noted above to the EHD prior to the
recordation of the parcel map. If you have any questions or wish to discuss this letter in more detail, please contact
Linda Turkatte,Lead Senior REHS at(209)468-3441.
