1 Soil Suitability Study Page 5
Sandhu Farms,260 E.Linne Rd.,Tracy CA
' Project No. 692.1
September 18,2014
4.0 GROUNDWATER RESOURCES
' 4.1 Depth and Flow of Groundwater
Evaluation of the site's geologic and hydrologic conditions included a review of the surface
soils and topography, a review of groundwater monitoring reports for nearby known
' contaminated sites, a review of the USGS Topographic Map, Vernalis Quadrangle and the
map Lines of Equal Depth in Water Wells, which is attached to San Joaquin County
Department of Public Works report entitled Spring 1999 Groundwater Report. Based on this
map the surface of groundwater is estimated to lie less than 10 feet below grade and flows in
a northeasterly direction. The relevant portion of the map is included in Appendix C.
Groundwater monitoring data from a remedial investigation at 3780 W. Linne Road, about 1
mile west of the Property, suggest that locally, groundwater lies at about 12 feet below grade
and flows in a north easterly direction.
' 4.2 Known and Potential Groundwater Contamination
There are many possible sources of groundwater contamination including leaking storage
' tanks, surface releases of hazardous materials, over-use of agricultural chemicals, leakage
from dairy lagoons, and septic sewage seepage. An investigation of possible groundwater
sources was discussed in a prior report entitled Dort, Surface and Subsurface
1 Contamination, 700 W. Linne Road, Tracy CA dated February 11, 2013. No likely sources
of potential offsite contamination were identified.
' 4.3 Water Well Sampling and Analysis
One water production well is present onsite. The well is located near a large storage shed in
the farm building complex (700 W. Linne). The well was constructed in 2006 and replaced
' an earlier well that has been properly abandoned. It is 200 feet deep and has 8-inch casing
(Appendix G). Geo-Phase Environmental, Inc. sampled the well on August 29, 2014. The
sample was collected directly from a sample cock located at the well head. Insofar as the
well was operation at the time, it was not necessary to purge it prior to collecting the sample.
' The water sample was collected directly into a 1-liter amber glass jar and 40-m1 VOA phials. -
The sample was immediately sealed, labeled and placed in a cooler chilled to 4 degrees C.
The sample was then transported to Argon Laboratories, a State certified analytical laboratory
in Ceres, CA under chain-of-custody protocol. The chain-of-custody and laboratory data
sheets are attached.as Appendix E. The sample was tested for the presence of the agricultural
fumigant 1,2-dibrt mo-3-chloropropane (DBCP), and for total nitrate. The water well sample
did not contain detectable concentrations of DBCP. The total measured nitrate con—e-eentratto
was reported as nitrogen. The measured nitrate as nitrogen concentration as 4 in
maximum concentration allowable for drinking water(MCL) is 10 mg/L.
The laboratory data sheets are attached as Appendix E.
