C. Soil Analytical Chemical Test Results !
So' samples for alytical testing were retrieved from the depths referenced above. The attached
011 Analyses Repo illustrates the test results. Analyzed constituents relating to nitrate loading
ude the organic matter content of the soil, pH, Cation Exchange Capacity(CEC), and the
nitrate-nitrogen content. The organic matter is low throughout the shallow soil profile, indicating a\
low contribution of nitrogen release. The pH is alkaline at both tested depths. This alkalinity can
inhibit nitrification and promote denitrification. The CEC indicates the soil potential to retain
ammonium molecules that are in the septic system effluent. The CEC has a potential to inhibit
nitrification, and is of medium concentration in the soil profile. Of signific a is the nitrate-
nitrogen concentrations at each de yealing a medium concentration o 9 tpm at 24 inches, but
a significant decrease at 36 inches 3 pp)n NO3-N. This may be attributedtd the 24 inch deep
sample retrieved from under the law a. The Table below summarizes the important soil
parameters analyzed:
TABLE 2
I
SUMMARY OF SOIL ANALYSIS
DEPTH OF SAND SILT CLAY USDA/USCS NITRATE-N pH/CEC
SAMPLE % % % SOIL TEXTURES CO NT
24 Inches 39% 36% 25% Loan,//Silty Lean Clay 9 ppm 7.7/14.8
(From awn)
36 Inches 39% 34% 27% Cla7 Loam/Lean 3 ppm 7.7/13.0
Clay with silt (From Under 4 Soil)
III. GROUNDWATER TEST RESULTS
The groundwater directional flow is generally assumed to be in a northeasterly direction toward the
San Joaquin River. It is also generally acceptedthat gro, at ically flows with the
topography of the land surface. As noted from the attar d at
m , the land surface
declination is in a northeast direction. 11
The depth to the water table could not be measured in the on-site domestic well. However, the L
static water level was measured at 68 feet deep in a domestic well 100 yards to the west of the ~
subject property. As referenced, the Prioste's plan to drill a new, deeper well 10 to 15 feet west of
the existing well. Consequently, this existing domestic well water supply was tested for analysis,
with the results discussed below.
Page -5-
Chesney Consulting
