Alisa Goulart, Associate Planner July 4, 2018
San Joaquin County Community Development Department
Planning / Development Services Division
1810 E. Hazelton Avenue, Stockton, CA 95205
PH: (209) 468-0222 / FAX: (209) 468-3163
www.sic!ov.org/commdev
Re:Application Number PA-1600128
Alisa,
As we have discussed via Email, my wife and I have some significant concerns regarding this application.
We have lived directly next door to the Mettler's since 2006. During that time, their trucking business
has slowly expanded. Initially it was one truck that was mainly active during the grape harvest season
and was parked on the street side of their large garage. Since then, the area behind the garage was
paved, multiple double trailers have been stored, and up to 9 trucks have been active on the property at
one time.
The trucks have come and gone at all hours, especially during the grape harvest season, picking up and
dropping off the trailers many times per day. Picking up and dropping off these large double trailers is
noisy and impacts our quality of life. We have had to close our doors/windows and run a fan at times to
avoid the noise. We have reviewed the diagram of the property and the proposed areas of use. The
main area of truck operation is directly adjacent to hour house, in fact, the driveway to be used passes
within 50 ft of our house. We are closer to the action than the owners are.
We have several questions about the application. We understand the farm service facility is to be active
from August through December and idle the rest of the year. We would like to know if there are
restrictions on the hours of operation, and on the number of times the trucks can enter and exit the
property? Are they allowed to load the trailers on the property? What type of maintenance work is
allowed on the site? Who will be responsible for monitoring the compliance?
We have a very friendly relationship with Jim and Carol Mettler, but we feel it is necessary to protect our
interests in this case. We are very concerned about the negative impact on our quality of life, and on
the very likely negative impact on the value of our home, our biggest financial investment. We love
living here but frankly, if this house were for sale now,we would not buy it since it sits directly next door
to a trucking company. We suspect that if we were to try to sell,we would get a much lower price than
would given for other comparable properties.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Please forward this letter to the appropriate people for
us.
Peter and Marty Drummond
