Watts Winery SSS Adendum
Our Project: LG5090507
July 8, 2009
As indicated, DBCP was found in the sample. DBCP is a nematocide and soil fumigant for
vegetables and grapes. It is thought to cause health problems consisting of kidney damage,
liver damage, and cancer. The use of DBCP was discontinued in 1979. The Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) set the maximum contaminant limit (MCL) at 0.2 parts per billion (ppb)
because the EPA believes that given present technology and resources, this is the lowest level
to which water systems can reasonably be required to remove this contaminant should it occur
in drinking water.
Conclusions and Recommendations
The onsite water well was tested for nitrate and DBCP. DBCP was detected at 0.39 ppb, which
is almost twice the maximum amount allowed in drinking water by the US EPA. Nitrate
concentration in ground water was found to be 13.3 mg/L-NO3, which is well below the
maximum contaminant drinking water limit of 45 mg/L-NO3.
Because of the favorable result of the nitrate loading calculation, no mitigation measures are
warranted based on nitrate. However, due to the elevated levels of DBCP in the water sample
we recommend that the water be tested again to confirm its presence and the owner should be
made aware that a filtration system, and or bottled water, should be used for a potable on-site
water source.
Limitations
Our professional services were performed, our findings obtained, and our conclusions proposed
in accordance with generally accepted engineering principles and practices. This warranty is in
lieu of all other warranties either expressed or implied. Test findings and statements of
professional opinion do not constitute a guarantee or warranty, expressed or implied.
Sincerely,
NEIL O.ANDERSON&ASSOCIATES, INC.
f S$10HAC SFO
—Baniel E.
