INTERVIEW SUMMARY
Two interviews were conducted, one with Mr. Bill Dotinga, main dairy area
operator/manager for the northern parcel, and Mr. Mr. Larry Woltjer, owner of the
orchard area (southern parcel). The interviews were conducted based primarily on site
reconnaissance observation for clarification/informational purposes.
Mr. Bill Dotinga confirmed that the solids separator located in the southwest portion of
the main dairy area (see Photograph 33) receives corral washings, which are
subsequently dried and sold as a commercial fertilizer. The large manure pile noted
near a pole barn in the same general area (see background area of Photograph 6) is
generated from dry corral scrapings and is used for free stall bedding. Mr. Dotinga
commented that the gravel/dirt road soil staining observed on the northern parcel was a
result of a saline based product which attracts moisture for dust control measures.
According to Mr. Dotinga, this is an environmentally approved method for dust control.
Mr. Dotinga also commented that he re-graded much of the northern parcel in an effort
to mitigate runoff into Lone Tree Creek from dairy and row crop operations and that all
discharge to this creek has been stopped. Runoff is currently being recycled into dairy
lagoons. Mr. Dotinga also stated that the two large tanks along the western portion of
the main dairy (see Photograph 35) included a former molasses tank and an
operational whey tank. He also reported that a nearby pole barn with separate bins
contains various feed supplements for the dairy cattle (see Photograph 34). Mr.
Dotinga indicated the three domestic wells (DW-2, DW-3 and DW-4) located along the
eastern border of the site are not utilized for human drinking water consumption.
Mr. Larry Woltier stated that a diesel motor and diesel AST ha been removed from the
central portion of the southern parcel (see Photographs 1 through 3) and had been i
replaced by a electrical motor and PMT. Mr. Woltier stated the polyvinyl tank contained
UN 32, which is a urea nitrate solution used as an additive when irrigating his orchards.
The steel casing shown in Photograph 3 was confirmed as a backup irrigation well
95428.E01/ST08R693 July 29,2008
©2008 Weinfelder Page 13 of 26
r
