LK E/NFELDER
enyn.v.oar..xynsowno:
4 LIMITED GROUNDWATER SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
- Kleinfelder conducted limited groundwater sampling and analysis at the site which
included the collection of four water samples analyzed for nitrates and DBCP. The
following section details the activities and results of the groundwater sampling.
4.1. FIELD ACTIVITIES
On July 2, 2008, a total of four groundwater samples were collected from four domestic
wells located on the northern parcel (See Plate 2). The domestic wells were labeled
DW1 through DW4. DW1 is located in the central residential/farmhouse area and DW2
through DW-4 are located along the eastern border of the northern parcel. DW-2 is('
located near the residence just north of the main dairy and DW-3 is located on the
northeast corner of an agricultural field. DW-1 through DW-3 were active upon arrival
at the site. Domestic well DW4 is located immediately east of a corral in the main dairy
area by a large red pressure tank. This well was not operating and according to Mr. Bill
Dotinga, this is a backup well and is not normally operational. Each of the domestic
wells had pressure tanks. DW1 and DW-4 were purged for at least 15 minutes prior to
sample collection. The sample from DW-1 was collected from a spigot plumbed after
the pressure tank. This well was noted to cycle on and off and apparently supplied the
residences in this central area. Domestic wells DW-2 and DW-3 were cycling on an off
approximately every five minutes and were being used to supply water for the dairy
operations. A sample was collected at all three of these locations (DW2 through DW4)
prior to the pressure tanks. Spigots were available at all four locations and discharge
rates were reduced well below 0.5 gallons per minute during sampling. No odors or
unusual discoloration were noted during purging and sampling activities. Water was
discharged into laboratory-supplied bottles for the requested analyses.
After collection, the water samples were labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody form,
and immediately stored in an iced cooler. The samples were transported under chain-
of-custody control to Kleinfelder's office and then transported by courier to California
Laboratory Services (CLS) of Rancho Cordova, California for chemical analysis. CLS is
certified by the California Department of Public Health (PH) to perform the requested
analyses. The laboratory data sheets and chain-of-custody records are included in
Appendix B.
4.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS
A total of four groundwater samples collected from the subject were analyzed for:
• DBCP by EPA Method 8011
• Nitrate as Nitrogen (N) by EPA Method 300.0
95428.E01/ST08R693 July 29,2008
©2008 Kleinfelder Page 15 of 26
r
