KLEINFILDER
r.
TABLE 3
REGIONAL GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
REGIONAL The site lies inside the western part of the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of
GEOMORPHIC California. The valley is about 400 miles long and averages about 50 miles wide, and
PROVINCE comprises about 20,000 square miles. The valley has been filled with a thick sequence of
marine and nomnarine sediments from the late Jurassic to Holocene. The uppermost
strata of the Great Valley represents, for the most part, the alluvial, flood, and delta plains
of two major rivers(Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers)and their tributaries.
The valley deposits are derived from the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada
to the east. Granitic and metamorphic rocks outcrop along the eastern and southeastern
flanks of the valley. Marine sedimentary rocks outcrop along most of the western,
southwestern, southern, and southeastern flanks; and volcanic rocks and deposits outcrop
along the northeastern flanks of the valley. The valley geomorphology includes dissected
uplands, low alluvial plains and fans, river flood plains and channels, and overflow lands
and lake bottoms.
The site itself is located in the central portion of the Central Valley in an area
characterized by alluvial fan deposits. The majority of the native sediments include
continental rocks and deposits of a heterogeneous mix of poorly sorted clay, silt, sand,
and gravel. Some beds of claystone, siltstone, sandstone, and conglomerate can also be
present.
DEPTH TO According to the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District
REGIONAL (SJCFC&WCD)map, entitled, "Lines of Equal Depth to Groundwater", Spring 1997, the
GROUNDWATER AND groundwater depth is approximately 80 feet below ground surface. According to the
r. DIRECTION OF SJCFC&WCD map entitled, "Lines of Equal Elevation of Groundwater", Spring 1997,
ANTICIPATED FLOW the general direction of groundwater flow in the area of the subject site is to the
southwest. Groundwater flow, depth and direction may be influenced by local pumping,
rainfall, or irrigation patterns. Evaluation of such factors is beyond the scope of this
assessment.
i
20-4280-OI.E01/2019RI 77 Page 6 of 23
Copyright 1999,Kieinfelder,Inc. March 1, 1999
t
