r
t " r)
RECiEVED
Application Number#PA-0800145(UP) MAY - 2008
5-3-08 Community Development Dept.
San Joaquin County Community Development Department:
Attn: Jason Jones
We are writing this letter in response to an application referral letter we received by mail on
5/1/08 in regards to a proposed squab raising operations at 26778 Lone Tree Road Escalon,
California 95320. We live two parcels to the west of the proposed project and have a variety of
concerns. It is our understanding that this address as our address is in a Limited Agricultural
Area. By definition in the code it reads that this is a zone that is intended to recognize and
preserve areas that contain EXISTING concentrations of SMALL scale agricultural operations
and dwellings. This proposal is an addition not existing squab farm(pigeon)to our
neighborhood. The possibilities of impact may include but are not limited to: 1. drinking water
contamination as on the proposal there is not a water catching area therefore the runs off from
cleaning of squab feces, etc would then seep into out wells which is our drinking water supply.
2. Continuous noise from cooing squab. 3. Foul smell from squab as the wind blows in this
area on a daily basis. 4. Possible Salmonella and West Nile Virus as birds carry these viruses.
5. Possible loose birds creating havoc at our home as they nest, poop, and quack when loose.
The question we have is what is a SMALL scale operation? Approximately 800 squab what does
that mean? 800 pairs or 800 plus the offspring?
We feel this is a negative declaration as it has a great deal of environmental impact on our area.
The people who are making this proposal just moved in to this area and have already placed a
"bright yellow"modular home in front of an existing modular. They have a very large shop
already on the property and NOW a SQUAB FARM. What's next? Please notify us as we
oppose this proposal and will attend the formal hearing.
Sincerely,
Jinn and Melody Murray
26562 Lone Tree Road
Escalon, California 95320
209-838-1026
