EXISTING CONDITIONS
The proposed project site is located adjacent to the San Joaquin
River near the city of Tracy.' The site is located below the 100
years flood plain. The soils are composed of alluvial sands
interspersed with occasional mineral soils. Soil stability near
along the river is good as protective vegetation is well
established. The property historically has been used to produce
agriculture crops, but agriculture production has been absent for
a few years.
The plant communities are comprised of dense stands of riparian
vegetation intermixed with open shrub and grassland areas
representative of typical San Joaquin valley riverine habitats.
Optimal habitats are located nearest the existing lake and in
close proximity to the San Joaquin River to the North and South.
Wildlife species include: striped skunk; opossum; coyote; grey
squirrel; grey fox; ground squirrels; red-tailed hawks; black
shouldered kite; northern harrier, swainson hawk; numerous
songbirds; barn owl; California quail; Chinese ring-necked
pheasant; various waterfowl species; great blue heron; green
heron; great egret; bittern; bullfrog; western pond turtle;
garter snake, California king snake, western fence lizard, and
similar species.
A serious commitment has been made by the owner, John Eagal, to
develop and restore quality riparian habitats, the property will
produce significantly more wildlife. Wildlife populations will
increase in both total numbers and species diversity as a result
of this proposed project.
The goal of the project is to restore existing wildlife habitat
and develop highest quality habitats for many wildlife species.
The development and restoration of quality wildlife habitat on
the property will compliment two additional neighboring
properties which also contain high quality wildlife riparian
habitats. By developing quality wildlife habitat on the property,
any and all surrounding habitats will have greater wildlife use
and increased wildlife production values.
4
