rFAsferenced above, it was anticipated that groundwater would have been encountered in the
oe test pits and a sample retrieved. However, this was not the case. Additionally, the
stic or public well that will serve this facility has not been drilled yet and there was no other
well on the subject property to sample and analyze.
F. SURFACE WATER INFORMATION
There are three bodies of surface water that have the potential to be impacted by septic effluent.
These are the Ski Lake - to the east of the proposed leachfield, a wetlands drainage course - west
of the leachfield area, and the San Joaquin River to the north. There will be no storm3yatx
retention onds. As discussed below, the leachfield area will be orientated to be in compliance
with the distance requirements as promulgated by the PHS-EHD Sewage Standards. Therefore,
each body of surface water referenced above should not be affected by septic effluent.
A sample of San Joaquin River water was taken from the "downstream bank" of the proposed
facility and tested for nitrate and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Test results reveal a river water
nitrate concentration of 10 ppm (as nitrate) and a TD concentration of 532 ppm.
III. NITRATE LOADING STUDY RESULTS
A. SEPTIC SYSTEM COMPONENTS
The design of the future septic system for the facility is based upon the factors of proper
operation, longevity, and environmental protection. The San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department will ultimately stipulate design requirements for the proper operation of the
septic system and for environmental protection.
The proposed Ski Shop will have a final floor elevation higher (approximately 12 ft) than the
current grade elevation. Consequently, the septic tank and leachfield must be designed to
accommodate for this elevational change. A schematic illustrates that the leachfield must be
oriented to accommodate the above referenced distance requirements.
SEPTIC TANKS/GREASE TRAPS
From the calculations illustrated below, it is anticipated that the wastes originating from the Ski
Shop will flow into two - 2,000 gallon septic tanks, with the effluent to be distributed through
leachlines. There wx e a vaulted privy" installed according to Section 9 of the Sewage
Standards for wastes originating from the "Sand Beach" area.
5
valley?[g Re-Search
