VI. OTHER REQUIRED INFORMATION
Characterization of Waste Discharge
We will be processing fresh vegetables. Our purpose is to take fresh
vegetables we have grown on our farm and make them more convenient for
the public, by cutting, peeling or slicing, and then packaging for shipment. We
are hoping everything is approved to start by July 1, 2010.
Fresh vegetable processing will create a wastewater discharge from
washing/sanitizing the fresh vegetables, as well as the hard surfaces and
machinery used during processing. For sanitization we will be using water
with an environmentally safe micro biocide product, SaniDate 12.0, from
BioSafe Systems. SaniDate 12.0, with an activated peroxygen chemistry, is a
chlorine alternative without the harmful byproducts. Please-see specimen
label attached.
During processing we will have two vegetable washers, each holding
approximately 300 gallons of the water/sanitization solution. We will drain
washer tank used daily after the processing shift, as well as wash down all
hard surfaces and machinery used in the processing area. There will be a
f
drain down the center of the floor for all wastewater to flow to the sump
pump station. As the sump pump station fills it will be pumped into our
private agricultural irrigation line (2ft by 1200 ft) to be used for crop irrigation
on 30+ acres, as needed.
All residual solid waste from vegetable processing will be composted on
site about one half mile north of proposed processing building and then
discharged to land as soil amendments.
