CA0004839 _
Dear Ms . Price :
Please find enclosed our discharge monitoring report update for the
month of November 1988 .
we ended discharging of water to the San Joaquin River for the
summer irrigation season on March 15th. We continued to monitor
most of the parameters throughout the summer , however , as an aid to
controlling our processes . We once again began discharging to the
San Joaquin River on November 7 , 1988 at 2 : 45 pm.
During the month of November the south tank basement sump and the
waste water treatment reservoir hexavalent chromium levels were
always less than 0 . 05 mg/l according to our spectronic method.
Confirmatory hexavalent chromium analyses on the waste water
treatment reservoir sent to our contract laboratory on the 7th,
14th, 22nd , and 29th of November were always less than . 05 mg/1 .
On November 29 the amount of suspended solids discharged exceeded
the limit as calculated from production data . The reason for this
is that there was no significant tempered glass production for that
week and hence no allowance in the calculation. The concentration
of suspended solids in the discharge never varied from normal .
Also included in this month' s report are the comparative standard
mineral data for the quarter .
We appreciate your patience with the lateness of this report and the
associated data . As noted in the last report , we have been having
problems with the oil and grease results on the waste water
reservoir . We are , at this time , investigating what may be causing
these problems . Note that on November 14 the amount of oil and
grease discharged exceeded the limit calculated from the production
data . Up until November 7th we had been discharging the waste water
to irrigation so the high oil and grease results had not been as
critical a problem as is the latest high result .
G.Y
PILKINGTON
