Lower Sacramento Road, Stockton, CA
APN: 084-020-01
Project Description / Justification Statement
General:
Nextel of California, Inc. ("NEXTEL"), has been authorized by the Federal
Communications Commission to construct and operate the first dual-purpose digital
mobile radio system in the United States. Nextel's national all-digital network is based
on the "iDEN" technology developed by Motorola. iDEN, stands for Integrated Digital
Enhanced Network technology. Nextel's "iDEN" phone combines digital cellular
service, unique secure national digital two-way radio, text/numeric paging, and wireless
Internet service capabilities on one mobile phone.
Nextel is in the process of expanding its wireless network coverage and capacity within
San Joaquin County and is pleased to partner with T-Mobile USA in the co-
development of a new telecommunications facility. The proposed Nextel / T-Mobile co-
developed wireless telecommunications facility will be located at 10100 N. Lower
Sacramento Road, Stockton, CA (APN 084-020-01). The facility will consist of an 85'
steel monopole with up to 12 T-Mobile antennas mounted to a RAD Center at the 85'
level, up to 12 Nextel antennas mounted at the 70' level, a Nextel 8' x 14' equipment
shelter, 3 GPS antennas mounted to the roof of the shelter, and a propane emergency
power generator and propane tank. The overall height of the facility will be 87' 3".
Nextel's radio equipment will be located within the equipment shelter and be connected
to the antennas via coaxial cables.
Justification Statement:
The economic, business and residential growth, along with increased general public
usage of Nextel wireless services in the Central Valley, have significantly increased the
volume of calls on the Nextel network serving greater San Joaquin County. Nextel
users have expressed concerns about wireless coverage and capacity issues in the
north end of Stockton and this site is designed to increase coverage and capacity along
the busy arterial streets of Eight Mile Road and Lower Sacramento Road.
The new wireless facility will provide enhanced cellular and push-to-talk wireless service
to surrounding industrial, commercial, tourist and residential developments throughout
the rapidly growing portion of San Joaquin County between Stockton and Lodi.
