KLEINFELDER
An employee owneA company
File No. 17357.1301
November 5, 2002
Ms. Deedee Antypas
Siegfried Engineering, Inc.
4045 Coronado Avenue
Stockton, CA 95204-2396
Subject: ADDENDUM TO SOILS SUITABILITY AND NITRATE
LOADING STUDY AND R-VALUE TESTING
HORIZON CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
10702 NORTH LOWER SACRAMENTO ROAD
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Dear Ms. Antypas:
Per our telephone conversation today, we understand that the use permit for this project contains
an occupancy of 499 people instead of the 299 people occupancy given to us for the soils
suitability and nitrate loading study dated August 8, 2002. As a result, the nitrate loading
calculations need to be revised. The revised calculations take into account the larger occupancy
as indicated on the use permit as well as the actual usage of the church buildings. We understand
that the buildings will be used for one service three days a week and not used the remainder of
the time.
NITRATE LOADING CALCULATIONS
Per San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) requirements, the following
summarizes our nitrate loading calculations for the proposed leach field. The drinking water
standard for nitrate is 45 milligrams per liter (NO3) and 10 mg/I as Nitrogen (N) in groundwater.
In our evaluation of nitrate loading, we have used the Hantzsche mass balance equation (source:
Predicting Ground-Water Nitrate-Nitrogen Impacts, Hantzsche and Finnemore (1992)), which is
presented below with an explanation for each factor and the value used in our study. The
selection of parameters was based on previous studies and investigations performed by our firm
and others, San Joaquin County Sewage Standards, and information provided in a report dated
March 19, 1997 prepared by the Questa Engineering Corporation and authored by Mr. Hantzsche
for a development in the Stockton area.
Nc =AWNw(I-D) +(Nb_)R
AW+R
17357.G01/ST02R730 November 5,2002
©2002 Kleinfelder,Inc.
