Spiess Rancho Subdivision
Page No. 4
Grading recommendations
In order to provide suitable building pads for the
proposed houses, the building pad areas should be cleared and
stripped as recommended in Appendix A, Engineered Fill
Specifications. After the clearing operations, the subgrade
thus exposed should be scarified for a depth of 8 inches, and
_ recompacted as indicated in Appendix A. Fill, if required,
that is placed on the building pads should be placed as
engineered fill as recommended in Appendix A. Fill should
extend a minimum of 5 feet beyond footing lines. On site non-
clay soils are suitable for use as engineered fill.
Foundation recommendations
If grading is accomplished as specified foundations may
consist of conventional spread footings. Minimum width of
footings is 12 inches. Minimum depth of footings is 18 inches
for either single or two story. If no clay soils are present,
footings should be continuously reinforced with 1-#4 bars top
and bottom (total of 2 bars) . if clay soils are present,
footings should be continuously reinforced with 2 - #4 bars
top and bottom (total of 4 bars) . Foundations constructed in
this manner may be loaded to a bearing capacity of 2500 pounds
per square foot total load. Bearing capacity may be increased
by 1/3 for temporary wind and seismic loads.
Four inches of clean gravel should be placed beneath the
slab-on-grade. This gravel should be well graded between a
maximum size of 1 inch and a minimum size of 1/4 inch with
zero percent passing the No. 4 sieve. The gravel should be
covered by a impervious vapor barrier such as 6 mil visqueen
or equivalent. The visqueen should be covered by 1 to 2
inches of sand to protect it during construction and to aid in
curing the concrete. If clay soils are present, it is
recommended that the slab be a minimum of 4 inches thick and
be reinforced with 6 x 6 x 2 . 1mm x 2. 1mm (6,6,#10,#10) wire
mesh or #3 bars at 18 inch centers both ways. The slab should
be tied to the footings with #4 dowels at 24 inch centers .
Dowels should extend a minimum of 24 inches into the slab.
Special Foundation Treatment (If clay soils are present)
s
 Z W
Q ~
P
4550 G
