k' ■ KLEINEELDER
storm basin on the south side. We understand that a one-bedroom caretaker trailer is planned to
the south of the existing structure. To accommodate the increased wastewater flow due to the
addition of the trailer, an additional leach line and seepage pit is planned for the existing septic
system. There are no natural drainages or trees on the property.
PAST, PRESENT, AND PROPOSED USE
We understand that prior to being developed in 1978, the relatively-level site was vacant land.
The initial development of the property was for a contractor storage facility. The site has since
been used for contractor operations and storage of contractor's equipment and materials.
The proposed use of the site is for parking of trucks for a gravel and sand hauling company. The
garage will be used for light maintenance of trucks, and the parking areas will be used to park
trucks at night and on weekends. Drivers will arrive at the site in the morning and pick up their
truck and trailers. They will then proceed to a materials plant, pick up loads, and deliver them to
construction sites. Drivers will remain "on the road" until the end of the work day and then
return to the site. No materials will be stored or dispatched from the site, and drivers will not be
stationed at the site. The office will be used on a minimal basis. One part-time secretary will be
employed for record keeping. Trucks will be dispatched from another location. Occasionally, an
employee will be on site to perform routine maintenance of trucks and trailers.
SEPTIC PERMITS AND PERFORMANCE
An employee of the SJCEHD performed a search for permits on file for the subject property and
adjacent parcels. One septic permit was on file for the subject property and four permits were on
file for the adjacent parcels. The permit for the subject property was for a new septic system
installation, as was one of the other four permits. The other three permits were for septic system
repairs or additions. Please see the attached table for a summary of permit information.
The property surrounding the subject property is being used for commercial and single-family
residential purposes. According to Ms. Rogers, to the best of her knowledge, neither the subject
property nor any of the adjacent properties require additional septic system work to be performed
at this time. Based on the permits on file with SJCEHD, it appears that some of the adjacent
septic systems in the immediate vicinity of the subject property have had additional leach
lines/seepage pits added to the existing septic systems.
GROUNDWATER
During the time of our investigation, groundwater was not encountered. Lines of Equal Depth to
Groundwater contour maps published in groundwater reports by the San Joaquin County Flood
Control and Water Conservation District show groundwater levels in the project area ranging
from about 50 to 85 feet below ground surface from Spring 1981 to Spring 1999. Based on
Equal Elevation of Groundwater maps, the general groundwater gradient is from east to west.
Local gradient variations may be present due to well usage.
35228.G01/ST03R1508 October 14,2003
©2003 Kleinfelder, Inc.
