O. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Greg:
We would like to start a composting operation on our vineyard located about 1
mile off Sola Road and Mariposa Road. The pomace and stems would come from Franzia
Winery located at 17000 East Highway 120, Ripon, CA. Harvest would begin around
August 1st and run til mid-October. During this period up to 8000 tons of pomace and
stems would be removed from the winery site and delivered to the composting site off
Sola Road. We may want to add manure up to the 50%level depending on our soil
requirements. The mixed material would be wind rowed.and left to compost over
approximately a 2 month period. During this time, the rows would be mixed several times
to prevent localized heating, prevent any off odors and maintain proper temperature to
sustain the growth of beneficial organisms.
Once composting is completed, this material would be used on vineyards in the
surrounding.area(2100 acres) and vineyards located in Lodi, (105 acres), Santa Anella,
(266 acres) and Lindeman at 1-51165, (140 acres). Application would occur late winter
or early spring.
Attached are the following maps:
A.) Plat 37 - shows winery located from which pomace will be removed.
B.) Plat 25 - shows area where composting is to take place.
C.) Detail of composting site.
3 The compost site is approximately 8-10 acres in area. This soil is classified as
Stockton adobe clay. Existing water table is approximately 100 feet. Just east of the site
The Wine Group, Inc. 17000 E.
