Kathleen Tekautz 26 December, 2000.
Michael Tekautz
3408 Wycliffe Drive
Modesto, CA. 95355-4742
To the Members of the San Joaquin County Development Committee:
This letter is in regard to the use permit application number UP-0022
of California Milk Market Inc. Youth Soccer Complex/Park with Practice
Field and Changing Facility.
We are the parents of two boys who play organized soccer. We have
supported youth soccer for 11 years on both the recreational as well as the
competitive level and will continue to support youth soccer for at least six
more years. It is a wonderful activity in which children can take part. Youth
soccer is a well organized and adult supervised activity. Having children
take part in youth soccer has them doing something that's good for them,
through exercise and it keeps them occupied in something constructive.
They aren't wandering around on the streets, hanging out at the mall, or
hanging out on street corners. Parents know where their children are and
who they're with. Who can argue with that?
As you are probably aware, soccer fields are in very short supply in
Modesto and the surrounding communities. Many of the high schools and
parks are severely restricting use if not banning it altogether. This puts our
children out of places to practice as well as to play. We would hate for this to
become such a big factor that it prevents current and future children from
playing soccer.
The proposed facility located on the north side of State Highway 120,
approximately 800 feet west of Victory Road, would be a wonderful site for a
small soccer complex. This site would provide a well contained area for
youth to practice and play soccer as well as teams to change clothes and
hold team meetings. I think that this facility would be a great benefit to the
immediate and surrounding community because it would give children a
place to play not only soccer, but it would be a park setting as well.
