February 27,2002
Job Number:LG02-048
Page 6
.. VI. GEOLOGY, SOILS, AND PERCOLATION TEST
The surface geology at the site is shown on Pages's 5 map and is composed of Continental
rocks and deposits, recent to Miocene age(Plate 5). These deposits are composed of a
heterogeneous mix of generally poorly sorted clay, silty, sand, and gravel; some beds of
claystone, siltstone, sandstone, and conglomerate.
The majority of surface soils located at the site are reported to be the Tinnin loamy coarse
sand(no. 255) (Plate 3)6. A minor amount of Delli sand (no. 141) is located along the northeast
corner of the property. The San Joaquin Soil Survey describes the Tinnin loamy coarse sand as
the following: "This very deep, well drained nearly level soil is on alluvial fans. It formed in
alluvium derived from granitic rock source enneability is rapid in the Tinnin soil.+Available
water capacity is low. If this unit is used for homesite development, the main limitation is the
rapid penneability, Community sewage systems may needed because seepage from onsite
sewage disposal systems can result in the contamination of water supplies."
The San Joaquin Soil Survey describes the Delli sand as the following: "This very deep,
somewhat excessively drained, nearly level and gently sloping soil is on dunes. It formed in
wind modified alluvium derived from granitic rock sources. In most areas, slopes were mostly 2
to 7 percent prior to excessive land leveling. Permeability is rapid in the Delhi soil. Available
water capacity is low. If this unit is used for home site develonment,_the main limitation is the
rgpid permeabili!y in the substratum. Community sewage systems may be needed because
seepage from onsite sewage disposal systems can result in the contamination of water supplies."
Table 3 presents some selected properties of the Tinnin loamy coarse sand and the Deli fin sand.
5 Page,R.W., 1986,Geology of the fresh ground-water basin of the Central Valley,California, with texture
'— maps and sections:U.S.Geologic Survey Professional Paper 1401-C,Scale 1:500,000.
6 USDA Soil Conservation Service,Soil Survey of San Joaquin County,California, Sheet 31.
?OERSO
 1
> w
Z
O
