n
September 30, 2007
NOA Project Number: E07146A
x//4.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
✓4.4.1 Quantity and Quality ofDomesdc Wastewater From Proposed Project
The following discussion is for determining the long-term waste water flow generated from the
proposed development for the nitrate loading analysis and should not be used for septic system
design purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of septic systems include a peak use factor,
whereas the numbers discussed here are based on long-term averages.
The wine tasting room is proposed to ha two employees per ay and will serve an a rage of ten
1 customers per day. We understand that it is p ed to be op
pproximately 5 hours per e
days per week.
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references. The
uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Di.Posal Standards
(2003), Crites and Tcbobanoglous (1998),and EPA (1980).The references indicate that 13 gallons
for each employee is typical for an office worker. (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998).The average
waste water flow for a customer in a wine tasting room is estimated to be close or below what the
- average wastewater flow would be for a customer in a cocktail lounge, which is approximately 15
gallons per person.
The following table presents the septic waste water uses associated with the site. The rates
! presented from the references provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in usage.
Careful examination, professional judgement, and experience ate necessary to select a reasonable
flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for maximum uses associated with this project are
presented in the following table.
Typical Quanti of Effluent
L'1' Tom Average Quantity Average Daily Flow
Category People per per Person Per Parcel
Day /
2 13 gal/day/employee (2 employees* 13 gpd) = 26 gpd* 5/7= 18.6 gpd
Commercial --- * 1/
- 10 15 gal/day/customer 0 customers 15 gpd)`= 150 gpd 5/7 =107.1 gpd YYY
Total AverDaily Flow 126avera gallons per day
Note —gpd is gallons per day;5/7 is a conversion for the 5-day work w
}-! For the subject property, the total daily waste water quantity is 176 gallons per day.A five-sevenths
conversion was used to account for a five day work week. Five-sevenths of 176 gallons per day is
126 gallons per day average.
Fl
