Ultimately, the biomat formation within the sidewalls of the leachline trenches and seepage pits
will determine infiltrative capacity. This biomat formation will develop in almost all conditions,
but is especially prevalent when sewage particles are allowed to enter the drainfield. We
recommend that a filter be place at the outlet of the septic tank to trap solid particles and hinder
excessive biomat buildup at the soil/effluent interface.
There is scientific evidence which suggests that when cohesive soils accepting septic effluent are
allowed to "rest' after extended inflows, original infiltrative capacity may be restored. This
resting period should last for several weeks to months. Therefore, we recommend resting
parameters should be considered in the design of the septic system design.
We appreciate the opportunity to provide this service for you.
