• assuming 60 percent of this precipitation percolates to the aquifer, the value of 8.26
inches average recharge of rainfall is obtained.
The nitrate concentration of rainfall was estimated to be 1 mg/L-N (Hantzsche and
Finnemore).
Acreage
Rodney Estrada, Director of Land Use at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department, requested that the nitrate loading analysis for this facility include acreage
for developed parcels only, not those parcels that are solely vineyard (personal
communication, March 9, 2017). The current and future development of the parcels that
make up the Site have been presented in Table 1. By excluding those parcels which
are and will remain exclusively vineyard, the value of 272.55 acres is obtained.
Quantity and Quality of Domestic Wastewater
According to a spreadsheet provided by Quartaroli & Associates, at full expansion the
facility will employ 391 workers, seven days per week. John Yarborough of Delicato
Family Vineyards indicated that, based on register receipts, an average of 119
customers per day visit the tasting room, which is open seven days per week. The
expansion will not affect the tasting room, he noted. In addition, Mr. Yarborough stated
that 10 accessory events took place at the facility in 2016, with an average of 86 guests
• per event; he expects a similar number of guests in the future (e-mail, May 23, 2017). '
The estimated sewage flow rates for various uses are available from a number of
references. The uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site
Wastewater Disposal Standards (2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA
(1980). The references indicate that 13 gallons for each employee is typical for an office
or industrial worker and 3 gallons is typical for a bar customer; these rates were used
for the winery and tasting room (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). For the special
event customer, an intermediate flow rate of 5 gallons per customer was selected. The
nitrate as nitrogen (N) concentration of the waste water from the employee, tasting
room, and event use is estimated to be 85-mg/L.
1 Christine Campbell of Delicato Family Vineyards provided data from metered domestic water use at the
facility (e-mail, May 2017). However, she indicated that not only the winery facility but three houses
located on the Highway 99 frontage road receive the metered water. Because these houses are not a
part of the current project, the meter readings cannot be used for this analysis. It is noteworthy, however,
that the total flow for the year (4,742,750 gallons), divided by 365 days, yields a flow of 12,994 gpd,
similar to the estimated value calculated in this section (9,651.8 gpd). The presence of the three
additional houses in the metered flow could account for the small discrepancy.
• LOGE 1714 Page 15
