• Soil Profile and Geologic Information
The Site is depicted on the Preliminary geologic map showing Quaternary deposits of
the Lodi quadrangle, California (Marchand and Atwater, 1979) within the Riverbank
formation upper unit, described as "arkosic alluvium forming Mokelumne River alluvial
fan; chiefly sand; probably glacial outwash" (Plate 7).
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the USDA Web
Soil Survey to be composed of San Joaquin loam and San Joaquin loam, thick surface
(Plate 8) (USDA, 2017). The table below presents some selected properties of the soil
units:
Table 1. See description of the map unit for
composition and behavior characteristics of the map unit.
Soil Borings
On April 5, 2017, Live Oak excavated one shallow and one deep soil boring on the Site
for the purpose of conducting percolation tests. The borings were four inches in
diameter, 3.01 and 8.17 feet deep, and were excavated by hand auger. The location of
the boring is indicated on Plate 9.
The soil in the borings was similar to that described by the Soil Survey. Below the
surface of road base, silty clay and sandy clay were observed to a depth of three feet (S 3)
below ground surface. Below this, cemented clayey sand was encountered to the full
depth of the boring. The log for the soil borings is presented in Plate 10.
LOGE 1711 Page 6
