The nitrate concentration of rainfall was estimated to be 1 mg/L-N (Hantzsche and 3 Z,
• Finnemore).
Quantity and Quality of Domestic Wastewater
The proposed project is the construction of a new truck tire and lube facility. According
to the project application, four employees and 10 customers per day are anticipated,
Monday through Friday.
Live Oak interviewed Bachitar Singh, owner of the Site, on April 18, 2017 regarding
employees and customers of the existing facilities. Mr. Singh indicated that the
restaurant on the Site ("it Is What It Is" diner) is open six days a week. Two employees
are present each day, and less than 100 customers per day are served. Mr. Singh
stated that the gas station, mini-mart (Jahant Food and Fuel), and Subway restaurant
share a building and septic system. These facilities are open seven days a week, and
five employees are present per day. He indicated that he does not track the number of
customers that visit the gas station, mini-mart, and Subway each day, though he would
estimate approximately 300. He added that there are two showers at the facility, but
they are used infrequently.
Mr. Singh has a meter on the domestic well, which supplies the diner, gas station, mini-
mart, and Subway. He provided meter readings for seven consecutive days, from April
22 through April 28, 2017. Because Mr. Singh indicated that there is no other water use
• on the Site from this well, it is assumed that the flow from the well will be equivalent to
waste water flow. During this time, the facilities on the Site consumed 8,950 gallons of
water. However, because the meter was read only once per day, only six days of data
were collected by th[s method--Li Oak divided the total by six to arrive at an estimate
of the daily fl (1,491.7 gal per day).
The estimated sewage ow rates for various uses are available from a number of
references, including the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Disposal Standards
(2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and US EPA (1980). Crites and
Tchobanoglous recommend that, when accurate flow data is available, that data be
used in place of estimates. Therefore, the flow data collected by Mr. Singh was used
for the existing facilities in the nitrate loading analysis. Crites and Tchobanoglous
indicate that 13 gallons per day is typical for an office or industrial building employee,
and 5 gal/user is typical for a public lavatory; these rates were used for the employees
and customers of the proposed truck tire and lube facility, as well as f ore detailed
analysis of the existing facilities. Crites and Tchobanoglous indicate t at 6 gore
er
is typical for a short-order restaurant; this rate was used for the diner c mers.
The nitrate as nitrogen (N) concentrations of the employee and custome=85m
gas
station, mini-mart, Subway, and proposed truck lube are estimated to (USEPA, 1980).
