L
October 23,2006
NOA Project Number. E06103A
/5.4 Discussion of Soil Lithology
A visual inspection of the soils from on-site drilling indicates some potential for percolation because
` of the silty content of the soils. A percolation test is the best method to determine the suitability of
the soils. Please see the next section for percolation test results. Generally speaking, coarser-grained
soils have much greater potential for percolation than fine-grained or cemented soils.
A
/6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION
/6.1 Percolation Test Locations
L A site map indicating the locations of the percolation test holes is included as Plate 1 in the appendix
of this report.
/6.2 Number of Percolation Tests
One shallow and one deep percolation test were conducted on each proposed parcel of the subject
property.
t/6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation
LA total of two shallow and two deep soil borings were advanced on the Site. The deep and shallow
soil borings were drilled with a truck-mounted deep rock augur rig on September 7,2006.
LA 1.5-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of
water in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of"pea gravel'were placed in the
bottom of the open soil boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. "Pea gravel"
was then used to backfill in the annular space.
j Presaturation of the percolation test holes occurred approximately 24 hours before the percolation
L• tests. The depth of water used to pre-soak was 12 inches above the bottom of the borings.
L /6.4 Condition of Borings After Presaturation
E After the 24-hour soak period, the presaturated holes were found to be intact on the day of testing.
/
4 / 6.5 Percolation Test Procedure
L Percolation tests were conducted for the borings on the subject property on September 8,2006 in
accordance with the requirements of the EHD. A percolation test with a duration of four hours was
performed for each hole. The last half an hour was observed by Ms. Lisa Medina, Senior Registered
Environmental Health Inspector, EHD.
L 6 .44
