KLEINFELDER
An employee owned company
File No. 18492.G01
July 16, 2002
Mr. Robert Blair
Fed Ex Freight West
6411 Guadalupe Mines Road, Suite 2185
San Jose, CA 95120
Subject: SOILS SUITABILITY AND NITRATE LOADING STUDY
FED EX FREIGHT WEST FACILITY
4520 SOUTH HIGHWAY 99 EAST FRONTAGE
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Blair:
Kleinfelder is pleased to present the results of our soil suitability and nitrate loading study for a
proposed shop building and replacement area for an existing septic system to be located at 4520
South Highway 99 East Frontage in Stockton, California. The purpose of our study was to
determine the suitability of the property for septic tank usage. The study was performed in
general accordance to the requirements of Section 9-10100© of San Joaquin County Ordinance.
The following includes background information regarding the proposed development, present
use of the site, and the groundwater depth in the project area. In addition, discussions regarding
our investigative procedures and the site conditions encountered during our field exploration and
the results of percolation tests are presented. Finally, the results of our nitrate loading
calculations and project limitations are provided.
PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
On a preliminary basis, we understand the subject 11.9-acre project site will contain a new shop
building. The site currently contains an office building and loading dock area. According to Mr.
Dylan Paxton, the AM Operations Manager for the facility, a maximum of approximately 50
employees are at the site on a daily basis. No cafeteria facilities are on site.
We also understand that the existing building's septic system requires a 100 percent replacement
area apart from the shop building's septic system. We anticipate that waste disposal for the new
building and the replacement area will be provided by individual on-site sewage disposal
systems consisting of septic tank/leach trench sewage disposal systems with seepage pits.
GROUNDWATER DEPTH
During the time of our investigation, groundwater was not encountered in our test borings.
