The holes were excavated to a depth of 42 inches and <br /> 8 inches in diameter. They were backfilled with 2 inches of"pea gravel." <br /> The deep holes were prepared per County Standards. Deep hole I was drilled to a depth of 22 <br /> feet,hole 2 was drilled to approximately 24 feet, and hole 3 was drilled to a depth of 23 feet. A <br /> 2 inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of water <br /> in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of"pea gravel" were placed in the bottom <br /> of test boring; the PVC was installed on top of the gravel. 'Pea gravel" was backfilled in the <br /> annular space. <br /> 5.3 Description of soil lithology as noted from test pit by appropriate professional using <br /> industry standard protocol: The soil in this area is classified as Redding gravelly loam and <br /> as stated in the Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California as provided by the United States <br /> Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. <br /> 5.4 Discussion of soil lithology as related to future onsite septic uses: The Redding gravel <br /> loam have very low permeability thus;percolation rates were slow as demonstrated by the <br /> failure of two shallow percolation tests.
