Several oak trees on the property will be pre- served especially those which line the levee. 8) Ninety-four (44) spaces for auto and trailer parking and two-hundred and twenty one (221) spaces for auto parking. A launching ramp may or may not be installed. Marinas without a launching ramp are not unprecedented in the Delta. At least seven such marinas exist in San Joaquin County. Launching ramps of nearby private developments or public ramps are used in these cases. The feasibility of a ramp at this particular site seems limited unless extensive improvements on the levee are made. Such a project may also require rerouting Neugebauer Road since a ramp should not disrupt traffic on a public road. II ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING A. Vicinity Characteristics : Roberts Island is located in the 1, 150 square mile Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The two major rivers in the Central Valley meet here and drain into the San Francisco Bay accounting for one-half of the states runoff water. Since these rivers provide the drainage for the Valley, the Delta receives rich alluvial deposits from upstream sources. As a result the area supports a richly productive and diverse ecosystem. 1. The Waterways : Turner Cut is a channel approximately 5h miles long and approximately 300 to 500 feet wide. It is part of over 700 miles of waterways in the Delta and nearly all of these waterways are navigable. The channels serve many functions : a) A "reservoir" for mountain waters, facili- tating extraction of water for agricultural, municipal and industrial use for much of California. b) A "public highway" for commerce and passen- ger travel. c) A "recreational corridor"for boaters, fisher- men and waterskiers. - 2 -
