May 25,2001
Job Number:LGOl-115
Page 6
VI. GEOLOGY, SOILS,AND PERCOLATION TEST
The surface geology at the site is shown on Marchand and Atwater's maps and is
composed of the Holocene and(or)upper Pleistocene age alluvium of middle and upper
members of the Riverbank Formation(Plate 6). The Riverbank is generally composed of alluvial
sand, silt, and other material composed of volcanic detritus and glacial outwash. The origin is
the Sierra Nevada foothills and mountains.
The surface and near surface soils located across the site are reported to be San Joaquin
Soils (no's 238 and 239) (Plate 3)1. The San Joaquin Series Soil is described as... "moderately
well drained soils on low terraces and dissected terraces. These soils are moderately deep to a
hardpan. They formed in alluvium derived from dominantly granitic rock sources. Slope ranges
from 0 to 8 percent" Table 3 presents some selected properties of the San Joaquin Series Soils.
Table 3.
Selected Soil Properties of the San Joaquin Series Soil.
San Joaquin County Soil Survey Report.'
Soil Name and Map Depth(in) Unified Soil I Salinity Soil Septic tank
Symbol Classification mmhos/cm Reaction absorption
PH fields
San Joaquin loam, 0-16:Loam. Plate
I identifies the locations where the soil borings and percolation tests were conducted. Plates 8
through 13 describe the soils encountered.
