ground water elevation is approximately 10 to 13 feet below mean sea level; ground
.. water flows toward the southeast or east-southeast at a rate of approximately five to S
2 I eight feet per mile in the vicinity of the Site.
Given that the ground elevation of the Site is approximately 15 to 18 feet, the depth to
water below the Site is estimated to be 25 to 31 feet.
Potential Ground Water Contamination Issues
The Soil Suitability Study is not intended to be an investigation into ground-water
contamination sources, and no such investigation was conducted. Many sources can
CZ 2 contribute to ground water contamination, including leaking underground storage tanks,
agricultural activities, dairies, septic systems, and storm water infiltration. Agricultural ( 2,
activities and the use of septic systems in the area are known ground water
contamination sources with the potential to impact the Site.
Live Oak reviewed the EHD's Water Well Data Table dated March 10, 2009 for nearby
addresses that have been tested for nitrate and dibromochloropropane (DBCP),
common ground-water contaminants in San Joaquin County. Three wells were
identified within approximately three-quarters of a mile of the Site. Nitrate as NO3 was
detected in all of the wells at concentrations of 2.6 to 56.4 mg/L. Only two of the wells
had been tested for DBCP; it was detected in both wells at concentrations of 0.88 and
2.1 LAg/L. The Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) set by the US EPA for nitrate as
NO3 is 45 mg/L; the MCL for DBCP is 0.2 ug/L. It appears that nitrate and DBCP are
11\\ present at levels in excess of the MCL in some ground water in the area.
On-Site Wells
According to Mr. Phillips, a public well, a domestic well, and an irrigation well serve the
Site (Plate 2). Four well permits were identified for the Site at the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department; all the permits identified were for the address of
4580 West Highway 12:
• January 1977 permit for new irrigation well.
• June 1978 permit new domestic well.
• April 1981 permit for new industrial well.
• November 1993 permit for pump replacement at domestic well.
• August 2006 permit for pump repair at domestic well.
• May 2010 permit for destruction of shallow well (location unclear).
LOGE 1508 Page 4
