Nitrogen Loading Study Report Page 4
24754 EAST RIVER ROAD
WKA No. 11306.01
January 13, 2017
l
The resultant high concentration of total nitroge alcula to' a 3.0 /L and the low
concentration of total nitrogen was calculated t be 2.49 mg/L.
5.6 Impact of Nitrogen Loading
The calculated concentration of total nitrogen was compared to the Maximum Contaminant
Level (MCL) of 10 mg/L for nitrate as nitrogen. The worst case assumption of a complete
conversion of total nitrogen to nitrate was used and the calculated concentrations were
compared to the MCL for nitro e as nitrogen. The results show both the high and low estimates
of 3.03 L c12.49 mg/L below the MCL. Based on this, it is not likely that the septic
ems will have if ant nitrogen-related impacts to down gradient water resources.
6.0 NITROGEN LOADING RESULTS DISCUSSION
The results of the mass balance s w no a cess nitrogen loading to groundwater when
compared to the MCL. The septic was found to be the least significant source of
nitrogen loading. Storm water runoff was found to contribute more than half of the nitrogen
loading at the Site. The installation of the septic system will not create a significant source of
nitrogen to the area.
Mitigation is not required for the current Site conditions. Any future development at the Site
should utilize Best Management Practices to prevent the over-application of nitrogen.
7.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
WKA performed a nitrogen mass balance for the Site using a high and low estimate for the
amount of nitrogen contributed from the East and South Septic Systems. The resultant high
estimate concentration of total nitrogen was calculgted to be 3.03 mg/L and the low estimate _
concentration of total nitrogen was-calculated tribe 2.49-mg/L. Both of these values fall below
the MCL for nitrate as nitrogen of 10 mg/L. The result of the mass balance show no significant
nitrogen loading from the septic systems that would impact soil or groundwater.
8.0 LIMITATIONS
The statements and results presented in this report are based upon the scope of services
performed as described above and data available during the writing of this report.
