IA - 0200370
RECLAMATION PLAN
GEORGE REED, INC.
BELLINO RANCH
ESCALON, CALIFORNIA
George Reed, Inc. (Applicant), is applying for a permit to remove approximately 2.4 million cubic yards of rock, sand,
and gravel over a period of 12 years, which includes total reclamation, using the open pit method of extraction.
Reclamation will proceed concurrently with excavation. George Reed, Inc. is currently extracting sand and gravel from
an existing quarry (QX-99-3)approximately 2 miles SE of the project area. QX-99-3 is expected to be depleted in year
2003 - 2004. This permit will allow applicant to continue operations in an area where mining has occurred since the
1950's. There will not be a substantial change from the daily operations as they currently exist. All extracted materials
will be processed at the existing facility located approximately 1/4 of a mile Southwest of the pit at 26292 E River
Road, Escalon.
I. DESCRIPTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING
The project site is bounded to the North by Almond Orchard, East by Almond Orchard, South by River Road(Almond
Orchard), and West by Harrold Avenue (Peach Orchard). The project area is currently planted with Almond trees and
will continue to be farmed and produce nuts until such time excavation commences in each phase.
A. Maps
Engineered drawings showing project area, site access and topography are attached. A USGS 7-%2 map
covering an area of several miles around the site which displays roads / highways, railroads, utilities,
buildings,natural drainage,river, wells,residences and other pertinent features,is also included.
B. Geoloev
This site is within the Modesto Formation which occurs as flat terrace deposits above the Stanislaus
River flood plain. Most of these terraces are prime orchard lands. The site has varying depths of sand
and gravel deposits underlying the topsoil. The site is within an MRZ2 Zone as Classified by the
California Division of Mines and Geology. '
C. Hvdroloev
Groundwater Depth is 50't. Excavation will not reach groundwater depth. Sprinkler irrigation for the
existing orchard is provided by a private well located on site. There are no natural waterways on site
and the area is not subject to flooding or other natural hazard.
"A Mineral Land Classification Study of the Stanislaus River Area, San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties, California"-1977
Thomas E. Gay Jr.,State Geologist, California Division of Mines and Geology
