At your request, we have evaluated
the existing pavement section with regards to an increase in truck traffic due to the development
of an aggregate source on the east side of Harrold Avenue. The section of road that was
evaluated extends from River Road north 700 feet. Our scope of services were developed after
discussions with you and Mr. Gabe Karam of San Joaquin County Public Works Department.
t i
As part of our evaluation, we drilled 3 test borings to depths of approximately 5 feet below the
existing pavement surface. These borings were drilled Willi a truck mounted drill rig equipped
Willi 4-inch diameter continuous flight auger. The first boring was drilled approximately 665
feet north of River Road in the southbound lane; the second boring was about 400 feet north of
River Road in the northbound lane; and the third boring was approximalcly 150 feet north of
River Road in the southbound lane. These borings were located in the field by pacing and
therefore the above stated locations are approximate only. The soils encountered in the lest
borings were logged by personnel Of our firm. Following the drilling, the test holes were
backfilled Willi the cuttings and the pavement repaired Willi Cold patch asphalt.
The pavement section at each of the 3 test borings consisted of 4v'4- to 4%2-inches of asphalt
concrete overlying silty sand which extended to a depth of between 18- and 24-inches below the
pavement surface in the first and second borings. The silty sands were underlain by slightly
clayey, very silly fine sand that extended to 5 feet. The silly sand extended to 4%2 feet in the
third or most southerly boring. This sand was underlain by sandy silt that extended to the 5-foot
depth.
Two bulk samples of the near surface soil from adjacent to the pavement near the first and third
borings. These samples were rctunled to our laboratory for testing. The tests performed
consisted of No. 200 Washes and Resistance Value (R-Value). The lest results are summarized
in the table below.
17508b/ST02R 139 Page I of 2
Copyright 2002 Klcinfelder.lnc June 26,2002
KLEINrELDm 21121 1.,n1 nlvltlo%1wel. til,„k1on,c A 912415- 1?9.1 1111919.111-1 I4: 1111 4,1411-Ut.11 lar
