Statement of Purpose:
The Soil Suitability Study for Frank Faria Dairy, Inc.:
• evaluated the capacity of the existing main dairy site to be used to disperse
manure solids and storage pond liquids containing nutrients. The study determined
the proposed settling ponds, lagoon expansion, and field acreage at the main dairy
site to be capable of receiving all the manure effluent liquids for both phase I and
phase II expansions. About 5800 yards of manure solids containing 54,493 lbs of
nitrogen would need to be exported from the site.
This Soil Suitability Study Supplement for Frank Faria Dairy, Inc. has the following
purpose:
• Determine the capability of the additional properties of Frank Faria Dairy, Inc. to be
used to disperse the surplus manure solids.
Statement of Project History:
The San Joaquin County Planning Department has approved the current project. Their
Site Approval number is SA-01-23. This approval allows for an expansion of the
existing dairy (550 milk cows, 80 dry cows, 200 bred heifers, 200 calves over three
months, 110 calves under three months) cow milking facility, dairy cattle feeding
facilities, cattle feed and commodity storage and farming operation. This site has
been operated as a dairy cow raising and milking facility for over forty years. The
portions of the site that are not a portion of the buildings, corrals and the manure
storage system are irrigated farmland. The farm property is leveled for flood type
irrigation. The existing manure management system is adequate for the existing
facilities and operations.
Statement of Planned Site Improvements:
The planned site improvements to grow from the current cowherd population to the
optimal cowherd population that the property will accommodate are addressed in the
Soil Suitability Study. The growth is planned in two phases.
GROWTH CHART
_ Type of Cow Existing Phase I 1740
se II Total
50
Lactatin Cow 350 400 0
D 100 40 180Bred Heifers 50 0 50
Heifers 80 0 0 80
Calves 150 0 0 150
Bab Calves 20 35 35 90
Total 750 475 475 1700
Western Design/David Avila 2001 3
