That is how it all began.
With complete fairness to all the supervisors , since 1955
they have supported the idea that we should have one place
in San Joaquin County, in California, in the United States ,
and maybe the world, which is exclusively for agriculture .
Several businesses have been developed in the area which
work exclusively for the best interest of agriculture and
the buying of our crops , processing our crops, and shipping
our crops out of San Joaquin County into the state and the
world markets , to bring in new income.
Over all the years since 1955 , we have had perfect harmony
in our community with the supervisors and the county
planning department, and the regulatory agencies .
As you all know, because of state laws and programs, new
people from all over the United States and the world have
moved into the state of California and San Joaquin County in
large numbers .
They are all in search of better opportunity for a good
life.
San Joaquin County has been very generous to the newcomers ,
as well as the developers and the promoters who have pitched
their movement, in a very fast way, for changing the
character of much of San Joaquin County' s lands from pure
agriculture to subdivisions .
I am one of those farmers who thinks there should be a place
for the environment and for wildlife to live, prosper , and
reproduce with adequate protection and guidelines .
Many of you know the writer personally and you know I am not
modest when I think there is injustice being done.
At no time have I attended public meetings and criticized
the movement of orderly real estate development, orderly
planning for agriculture , or orderly planning for wildlife -
whether it is four-legged animals or birds .
In regard to changing the character of our greenbelt and
making an application for the re-zoning or re-classifying of
our present ordinance which would make it permissible to cut
up one man' s land for his specific benefit, irrespective of
whether it is good for the overall picture of agricultural
zoning as we now have in the Roberts Union farm area.
-16-
