Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
APPLICATION MS-92-133, T&C WITT
I met with Ted Witt at the cattle feeding site at 2357 Rolerson Road on 22
September 1992 to discuss management of a pond that is surrounded by corrals
and collects corral runoff. Mr. Witt indicated that the pond had not been
pumped out on cropland for two years and that the level of the pond was
controlled by evaporation.
The electrical conductivity of the water in the pond 22 September 1992 was
8400 micromhos/cm which indicates accumulation of salt and nutrient. I
explained that left in that condition, the pond is considered a threat to
ground water quality.
Mr. Witt suggested a management plan in which water will be pumped from the
pond onto cropland and the water would be replaced with irrigation tail water
or water from the river. This would greatly reduce the salt and nutrient
loading of the pond and should alleviate the threat to ground water quality.
The acreage of cropland available appears to be adequate to assimilate th6
nutrient loading. I suggested that the pond water be tested from time to time
to determine nitrogen levels.
On 23 September 1992, Mr. Witt submitted a written wastewater management plan.
The plan, if implemented, should allow adequate protection of water quality at
the site. A copy of the plan is enclosed for your reference.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916) 361-5711.
ZU I S F.
