The current application for a use permit pertains to the commercial a uestrian business only, dba Sargent Equestrian Center. SEC Sargent Equestrian Center trains horses and people topull/drive carriages both for pleasure and for competition in shows on the property and around California and occasionally in other states. In practical terms this means that individuals bring their horses to SEC on a contractual basis for our trainers to assess the horse's level of skill train the horse to increase their abilities as a driving horse and to train the owner/driver in parallel with their horse. We also"start" horses without previous experience to drive in harness and offer lessons to individuals who wish to learn to drive for the first time. If asked we will help drivers looking for a suitable horse to find one those who need a carriage or help in findinq driving a ui ment to run down what they need. To make this possible we have a main barn an outdoor arena a covered indoor arena an extensive set of dirt tracks around the property to drive and several n fields ndriving " t I " along these tracks which are used bothtraining in competition. An office with an attached deck is placed near the hay barn and above the arenas. There is abundant parking We have a hay barn and several sheds used for tractor storage, as a work-shop and for storage. To suivort our training program we have brought in well known clinicians from around the US and abroad. We hold 'Driving Derbies" and "Dressage Days"which we open to outside drivers and we have had annual shows which have attracted drivers from as far as Canada and Colorado. Our clientel range from teens to the the 80s and have included disabled drivers. Our Community Outreach includes hosting the San Joaquin Hospice's Kentucky Derby West Fund Raiser, annual caroling drives to the Hanot Foundation, a residence for developmentally disabled adults, and hosting tours and demonstrations with lunch for residents of assisted living facilities in central California. SEC is complete and applying for this Use Permit as is: No new construction is anticipated.
