Ted Tasiopoulos [EH]
From: Ted Tasiopoulos [EH]
Sent: Monday,April 03, 2017 8:57 AM
To: 'Cort Abney'; Steven Shih [EH]; 'Jim Miller'
Cc: 'Garrett Readler'; Rodney Estrada [EH]
Subject: RE: LEA Realty Nitrate Loading Study
Cort,
We are close to sending an approval letter for the study. However, there is one concern that came up.
Due to the location where the septic system is proposed, we would like a complete description and scaled drawing
showing the number of tanks and leach lines proposed to meet the requirements of a standard designed system. This
info can be sent as an addendum to the latest study for our review and approval. If you have any questions, let me
know.
Ted
---- — -- --- -- --- ---- -- ..--------..-. ---------------
From: Cort Abney [mailto:cort@h2oengr.com]
Sent: Thursday, March 09, 2017 2:59 PM
To: Steven Shih [EH]; 'Jim Miller'
Cc: 'Garrett Readler'; Rodney Estrada [EH]; Ted Tasiopoulos [EH]
Subject: RE: LEA Realty Nitrate Loading Study
Steven,
Thank you for your response. Jim asked that I address your questions. My comments are in green.
1,We need the report to be signed and stamped by qualified environmental professional.
Understood. We will provide your office with a final hard copy and wet signature.
2, Can you explain how you calculate the 8.25 as R,58.06 as Aw and 9.85 x 10-3 as W?
Regarding R,the property will be receiving and detaining rainfall from off-site areas, so the watershed area,Aw=58.06
acres, is greater than the property area,A=46.42 acres. At 60% recharge and 11 inches average annual precipitation,
we calculated:
58.06 acres x 0.60 x 11 inches per year/46.42 acres=8.25 inches per year
Upon review of the uniform wastewater loading value, W, did find a spreadsheet error. The corrected value is 1.14
inches peryear. This is based on an estimated 4,900 gpd sewage effluent loading, or 239,104 cubic feet per year, and
divided by the property area,A at 46.24 acres(2,022,055 sq. ft).
239,104 cu.ft. per year/2,022,055 sq.ft. =0.118 ft per year,or 1.14 inches per year.
The new W value gives us a nitrate loading of 10.09 mg/l. However, since we have used aggressive assumptions for
loads and conservative assumptions for recharge and denitrification,a minor adjustment in any of these values will drop
the W value to below 10 mg/I. We propose the change the denitrification value from 10%to 12%,as the soils are not
uniformly sandy, thereby adjusting W to 9.88 mg/I, if necessary. We will show edits and adjusted values in the final
report.
1
