was observed when the borehole encountered the sandy backfill from the former excavation at a
depth of 15— 16 feet. No soil staining was observed or petroleum hydrocarbon odor noted
r during drilling or sample logging.
Chemical Analysis
Two soil samples were submitted to McCampbell Analytical for quantitative analysis of total
petroleum hydrocarbons by EPA Method 8015; and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes,
_ (BTE7) by EPA Method 8020. McCampbell analytical is certified by the State of California to
perform the requested analyses. The samples were selected from depths of 15 feet and 20 feet.
These equate to actual depths of 10 and 14 feet below ground surface. These samples were
selected because they were thought to be as close as possible to the former UST location.
Investigation Derived Waste
Based on the fact that no soil staining was visible and that no odor was apparent the soil cuttings
were discharged to the ground adjacent to the borehole.
Results and Conclusions
The analytical laboratory report for the two soil samples showed that none of the analyzed
constituents were reported above the laboratory reporting limits.
Based on these findings it is CKG's opinion that no impact to soil or groundwater has occurred at
the site as a result of the presence of the former gasoline UST. CKG recommends that Owens-
Brockway submit this report and data to Ms. Rebecca Setliff of San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division. This report and data supports a request for case closure from the
County.
LIMITATIONS
r This report was prepared in general accordance with the accepted standard of practice, which
exists in Northern California at the time the report was prepared. Conclusions and
recommendations presented in this report are based on the results of the scope of work presented
in our work plan dated November 14, 2002. This scope of work includes drilling one soil boring,
and quantitative analysis of two soil samples conducted by McCampbell Analytical. Only work
described herein was performed. As such CKG cannot render opinions on issues not resulting
directly from the work performed. It should be recognized that definition and evaluation of
environmental conditions is a difficult and inexact art. Judgments leading to conclusions and
recommendations are generally made with an incomplete knowledge of the conditions present.
More extensive studies, including additional environmental investigations, can tend to reduce the
inherent uncertainties associated with such studies.
w
Owcns Brockway Tracy Report Page 4 March 1 B,2002
CKG Environmental,Inc.
