The tests
consisted of Moisture Content and Dry Density Determinations and
a No. 200 Wash. In addition, one R-Value test was performed on
a sample of the near-surface soils for use in pavement sections
design.
The results of the Moisture Content and Dry Density Determinations
and the No. 200 Wash are noted on the Logs of Borings at the
corresponding sample locations and are summarized on Plate A-7 of
the appendix. The R-Value test result is presented on Plate A-8
of the appendix.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1 . GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION
A. General
In our opinion, the proposed structures can be supported on the
existing sandy soils, provided the soils are prepared as
recommended in the following sections of this report. However,
due to the reports of standing water on the site following heavy
rains, especially on the south portion, the structures will likely
have to be constructed on raised Engineered Fill pads. The height
of the fill pads will have to be determined by the civil engineer
and will be dependant on the site topography and current flood
maps. In addition, if slab-on-grade floors are constructed, we
recommend that french drain systems be constructed to minimize the
flow of water beneath the structures. If raised floors are
constructed over the Engineered Fill pads, the french drain
systems can be eliminated.
= Our recommendations for foundations, support of floor slabs, if
used, site preparation and grading and pavements are presented in
the following sections of this report.
B. Foundations
In our opinion, the structures can be supported on spread or
continuous foundations bearing on the existing soils or on
Engineered Fill. We recommend that foundations extend a minimum
depth of 12 inches for one-story and 18 inches for two-story
structures below the lowest adjacent finished soil subgrade,
interior or exterior, whichever controls. We anticipate that very
loose to medium dense soils will be exposed at the bottom of the
majority of the foundation excavations.
