*ECIEVED ..i
OFFICE OF
MAR 3 0 2007 SHERIFF-CORONER
Community Development Dept. COUNTY OF SAN JOAQUIN
7000 Michael N.Canlis Blvd.
French Camp,California 95231-9781
March 28, 2007
Steve Moore
Sheriff-Coroner
Public Administrator
Ms_Mo Hatef
Community Development Department
1810 E.Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95205
Re: APPLICATION NUMBER PA-050024(SPUD ISLAND
DEVELOPMENT)REVISED
Dear Ms. Hatef:
After meetings between the Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit and Mr. Ben Hulse,
project director for the Spud Island development, I would like to recommend the
following changes be made to my previous request. The department still has a strong
concern for public safety as well as possible damage to docked vessels being caused
by large wakes from the main shipping channel.
Mr. Hulse explained the only State approved island access point is the current location
on west side of the island. According to Mr. Hulse, moving the dock will cause the
project to be terminated. Therefore, the 200 foot proposed dock can remain at the
current location provided:
1. The dock must extend as far to the south from the land access point as is
allowed by the authorizing state agency.
2. A water deflection device be put in place at the north end of the docking
facility to deflect any large wakes away from the dock.
3. A 30 foot area directly adjacent to the land access point be painted in red and
clearly marked "Sheriff Patrol Boats Only."
The smaller 80 foot dock located at the southeast point of the island must also have a
30 foot section directly adjacent to the land access point painted red and marked
"Sheriff Patrol Boats Only."
The Department would also require submittal for an Application for Speed Zone or
Special Use Area for Waterways of San Joaquin County. This will be needed for the
CD32
