Surface and Subsurface Contamination Report APN: 229— l6— 12 P Parcel Nos. A and B 2
property to the east, north to Kelly Road and west is devoted to producing almond crops
in excess of twenty(20)years.
Discussions with the property owner revealed that the subject property had been
under his ownership for at least twenty(20)years and he has devoted the land to only
agricultural pursuit. The long time family ownership was confirmed by a search of the
San Joaquin County Assessor and Recorder Offices' records, whiah—rev that the
subject property has been in the Jones family for at least thirty (20)years. Considering
the long time agricultural use of the general area the(prflperty is situate in, and the long
time agricultural use by the Jones' family, there is no apparent evidence that indicates the
property has been subjected to either business or industrial use which would have
contributed possible contamination to the property.
Soil Character: The University of California publication entitled"Soils of San Joaquin
County, California by Walter W. Weir, dated June 1952,refers to the soil in this general
area as being San Joaquin Sandy Loam that is a strongly developed hardpan soil that is
developed from old alluvial deposits of granite origin and occurring in terraces. A
common title for this soil is"Red Iron-Hardpan Land"
The soil is brownish red in color and acidic in reaction and usually light to
medium textured. This soil can be either a sandy loam or loam type. The soil encountered
on the subject property was the sandy loam type.
The soil character and color at various depths is usually as follows:
0" to 9" Reddish-brown in color, friable and a pH of about 5.4.
9" to 18"Redder in color and denser.
18"to 30" Clay resting on hardpan.
Below Hardpan—Friable and stratified.
Once the topsoil is saturated to the clay layer, the water will stand on the surface
until it evaporates and erosion is negligible.
Native vegetation is generally grass and a few shrubs.
The utilization this soil is put to is usually dry-farming and irrigated pasture
although almond orchards are also common in this area.
Drainage for this soil is listed as good surface drainage and imperfect subsurface
drainage.
The Storie Index Rating for this soil is 24%that means that the soil is rated fair
(20%to 39%)for growing crops.
The "Soil Survey of San Joaquin County, California, United States Department of
Agriculture Soil Conservation Service" issued October 1992 lists the soil type in this
T)Pnnv W k T)nnnn M TnnPc 166R7 gteinemil RnaA FQrAlnn r Q,;1?1 PhnnP• 0091 WIR—?Ro ;
