March 13,2000
Job Number: LG00-067
Page 6
erosion is slight. The rate of water intake to irrigated areas is about 1.5 inchs/hour.s6 The
following is an excerpt of the engineering properties for the following soil.
—
Table of Selected Soil Properties of the San Joaquin-Urban land Complex
Soil Name and Depth(in) Untied Soil Salinity Soil Septic tank
Map Symbol Classification mmhoslcm Reaction absorption
PH fields
Devries sandy 0-13: Sandy loam SM <2 6.6-8.4 Severe:
loam,0 to 2 13-28: Sandy loam, SM <2 6.6-8.4 cemented pan.
percent slopes. 149 fine sandy loam
28-80: Indurated -- —
Note: The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
A soil boring was drilled to a depth of 10 feet to characterize the soil profile of the site.
No ground water was encountered to a total depth of 10 feet. Generally, a brown fine to medium
sand exists to a depth of 1.5 feet. This sand is followed by a brown fine to medium sand with clay
(beginning of hardpan)to a depth of 4.5 feet. This layer was followed by a brown cemented
clayey sand to a depth of 6 feet. This layer was followed by a cemented sandy silty clay to a
_ depth of 8 feet. This layer was followed by a slightly cemented fine clayey sand with rust mottling
to a total depth of 10 feet (Plate 8). Hard pan conditions were encountered between the depths of
4.5 to 9.5 feet.
—
One(1) percolation test was performed within the exploratory boring at a depth of 3.5
feet. The percolation test casing was 2 inch diameter PVC pipe with slots and an open end on the
bottom. Two inches of"pea gravel"was placed in the bottom of the hole, the casing was
installed, and one(1)foot of"pea gravel"was backfilled in the annular space.
A one (1)hour percolation test was conducted on March 1, 2000 in accordance with the
requirements of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division. The last '/2 hour of the tests
were observed by Mr. Ted Norgard of that office. A satisfactory peculation rate of 8.0 min/in
was observed for the percolation test(Plate 11).
.. 6 USDA Soil Conservation Service, Soil Survey of San Joaquin County,California, Sheet 6.
