Odyssey Landscape — Nitrate Loading Section Page 11 of 14
Our Project Number: NA157000
March 17, 2015
Based on this method, the average deep percolation of rain for the Lodi area is estimated to be
5.29 inches/year. The nitrate concentration of rainfall is estimated to be 1 mg/L-N (Hantzsche
and Finnemore, 1992).
2.3.3 Current On-Site Sources of Nitrate
The current on-site sources of nitrate include an existing septic system and natural processes. 3
2.3.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
2.3.4.1 Quantity and Quality of Wastewater from Project
The following discussion is for determining the long-term wastewater flow generated from the
on-site construction including a 3,600 square-foot remodeled residence used for
office/operations purposes with two bathrooms (each with a low-flow toilet and a sink) and one
kitchen sink, and a 5,100 square-foot remodeled shop/storage building used for truck
maintenance and repair with one bathroom (with a low-flow toilet and a sink). The office is
estimated to have a maximum of fifteen permanent employees per day, and the shop is
estimated to have five permanent employees per day. A maximum of five visitors per week are
anticipated at the office building; no visitors are anticipated at the shop. However, the system
should additionally be designed for occasional visitor capacity, in the event that visitors are
present and use the office restroom. A maximum of eight visitors per day should be accounted
for as a "worst case" scenario. We understand that the office is open approximately ten hours
per day, five days per week.
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references.
The uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Disposal
Stands ds_J2003 Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA(11980 . The references indicate
that 3 gallons per day is typical for each office employee and 5 gallons per day is standard for
each casionalvisitor, when utilizing a low-flow flush system (Crites and Tchobanoglous,
1998).
The following table presents the septic wastewater uses associated with the Site. The rates
presented from the references provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in
usage. Careful examination, professional judgment, and experience are necessary to select a
reasonable flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for the uses associated with this project
are presented below.
'404
©2015 Neil O.Anderson&Associates,Inc.
A Terracon Company
