Odyssey Landscape—Nitrate Loading Section Page 13 of 14
Our Project Number: NA157000
March 17, 2015
Table S.
Summary of Nitrate Mass Balance Equation.
Result Average Effluent Leachfield Deep
Parcel (Nc)* Acres(A) Daily Flow Concentration Denitrification Percolation
(mg/L-N) (Q)(gpd) (Nw) (d) of Rainfall
(mg/L-N) (R) (in)
1 5.1 7.00 1 191.4 85 25% 5.29
*Maximum contaminant level(MCL)for nitrate in drinking water is 10 mg/L-N.
2.3.6 Impact of Nitrate Loading to Nearby Water Sources
Since the subject property is relatively flat, we do not foresee percolating effluent affecting any
surface water resources.
2.4 Discussion of Nitrate Loading Results
2.4.1 Total Nitrate Impact
Based on the method and assumptions described, the result of the nitrate loading balance
indicates that the development on the parcel should not cause a buildup of nitrates in the
aquifer above 10 mg/L-N.
2.4.2 Methods of Mitigation
Because of the favorable result of the nitrate loading calculation, no mitigation measures are v
warranted.
3.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In summary, percolation rates that meet the minimum EHD standards were achieved at a
shallow depth (3.25 feet bgs) in the existing septic leach field area. The parcel appears suitable
for the use of a septic system designed for the intended usage. The septic system construction
appears to follow the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Disposal Standards where
applicable.
Groundwater sampled from a drinking water well at the site was analyzed for nitrate, EDB, and
DBCP, and all were reported below the limit for human health hazard. The level of nitrate is
below the required cutoff for nitrate loading in the groundwater and soils.
4.0 LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed, our findings obtained, and our conclusions proposed
in accordance with generally accepted engineering principles and practices.
