L
LNovember 9,2005
NOA Project Number: E05118B
LDBCP is a nematocide and soil fumigant for vegetables and grapes. It is thought to cause health
problems consisting of kidney damage, liver damage, and cancer. The use of DBCP was j
discontinued in 1979. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) set the maximum contaminant
L
limit (MCL) at 0.2 parts per billion (ppb) because the EPA believes that given present technology
and resources, this is the lowest level to which water systems can reasonably be required to remove
Lthis contaminant should it occur in drinking water.
Any new water wells installed on the property should have a water quality test performed prior to
Ldrinking the water.
L5.0 SOIL PROFILE AND GEOLOGIC INFORMATION
The Site is depicted on the Preliminary Geologic Map of the San Francisco -San Jose Quadrangle,
L California (1991) and is within a region of Quaternary Fan deposits. The unit is composed of gravel,
sandy silt and clay (Plate 3).
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin Coundy Soil Surmy
to be composed of the Capay clay, 0-2% slopes and Vernalis clay loam, 0-2%slopes (Plate 4)
(USDA, 1992). Table 2 presents some selected properties of the soils:
Table 2.
San Joaquin County Soil Survey
Selected Soil Properties of On-Site Soils.
Soil Depth Unified Soil Classification Salinity Soil Petme- Septic tank
Name (in) mmhos Reaction ability absorption
and Map /cm pH (in/hr) fields
Symbol
Capay 0-20: Clay:CH,CL <2 6.6-8.4 0.06- Severe:peres
Clay,0- 20-60: Clay,silty clay:CL,CH <2 6.6-8.4 0.2 slowly
2%slopes, 0.06-
118. 0.2
LVemalis 0-9: Clay loam:CL <2 6.6-8.4 0.2-0.6 Severe:Peres
Clay 9-47: Loam,silt loam,clay loam:CL,CL-ML <2 7.4-8.4 0.6-2.0 slowly
Loam,0- 47-60: Stratified sandy loam to silty clay loam: <2 7.9-8.4 0.6-2.0
2%slopes, CL,CL ML
. 268
Note:The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
v
6
