You requested that NCIA include nitrate loading from this winery waste application to our
calculation.
To calculate the total nitrate loading, the volume of wastewater to be applied to land was obtained
from the Board's March 29,2005 Notice ofApplicability of Resolution No. R5-2003-0106 for the subject
winery. In our experience,we have found winery barrel wash water to be relatively low in nitrogen,
typically 1 to 5 mg/L-N. For this calculation we have used a conservative factor of 10 mg/L-N.
Volume and concentration information for septic wastewater and rain water are the same as
presented in our original report. As in the original report,a denitrification factor of 10%is utilized.
The following parameters are used in the nitrate loading calculation:
Winery Wastewater: Vol: 45,000 gal/yr* (3.785 L/gal) = 170,325 L/yr
Conc. N: 10 mg/L* 170,325 L/yr = 1,703,250 mg/yr
Septic Wastewater: Vol: 494 gal/day* (365 day/yr) * (3.785 L/gal) = 682,473 L/yr
Conc. N: 45 mg/L* 682473 L/yr* (1-0.1) = 27,640,156 mg/yr
Rain Water: Vol: 6.84 in/yr* (6272640 int/acre) * (1 gal/231 in) * 19.31 acres
* (3.785 L/gal) = 13,557,155 L/yr
Conc. N: 1.00 mg/L* 13,557,155 L/yr = 13,557,155 mg/yr
LODI ■ SACRAMENTO ■ MODESTO ■ RENO
ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION 902 Industrial Way,Lodi,California 95240 ■209.367.3701 0 209.369.4228 fax ■www.noanderson.com
