4ype_
March 14,2002 ,
NOA ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT NUMBER LE01-383f ` /!'I G rG
4 This map unit is in the Southwestern part of the county. The soils formed in alluvium
derived from mixed Z-a(0epth
sources. As a resu t o e application of irrigation water,
F' a high water table is of 2 to 4 feet. Dr ' e systems that require continual
maintenance have been use o ower a water table to a depth of 4 to 6 feet.
F' This unit makes up about 2 percent of the survey area. It is about 95p ercent Capay
and similar soils and 5 percent components of minor extent.
Capay soils have a slope of 0 to 2 percent. Typically, the surface layer and underlying
Ymg
material are fine textured. The soils are calcareous below a depth of 20 inches. The
Pshrink-swell potential is high. An artificial high water table is maintained at a depth
of 4 to 6 feet by drainage systems. The soils are subject to rare flooding.
` Minor in this unit are the Stomar and Vernalis soils. These soils are well drained and
are in the higher gh positions
on fans.
FAreas of this unit are used mainly for irrigated crops. A few areas are used for
homesite development. The Capay soils are suited to irrigated crops. Limitations
include slow permeability and depth to the high water table. The growth of most
perennial, deep-rooted crops is limited by the high water table.
FIi
.
Where this unit is used for homesite development, the main limitations are slow
Fj permeability, a high shrink-swell potential, low strength, and depth to the high water
table. Onsite sewage disposal is difficult because of the slow permeability and high
water table and may cause contamination of the ground water. Structural damage can E
result from the high shrink-swell potential and low strength. These limitations should
be considered when foundations, buildings, and roads are designed (USDA, p.16).
IV. REVIEW OF REGIONAL AND LOCAL REGULATORY AGENCY
RECORDS
F
1. Regional Water Qualfty Control Board
Fj Our office reviewed the Leaking Underground Storage Tanks List (LUST) and the Spills, Leaks,
Investigations, and Cleanups List (SLIC) on file with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality
F1Control Board (RWQCB) in an attempt to determine if there are any files present at that agency
F 1 which note the unauthorized release of a toxic or hazardous agent into the environment on the subject
property or within a one-quarter(114) mile radius of the subject property.
h
F, 5
Fid.
